Category Archives: Dogs up for Adoption
Elmer
Elmer was rescued at the local market in May 2009. He lived in the shelter for over 1.5 years before he was adopted in December 2010. Sadly, the family left him behind when they decided to move away from Puerto in October 2011. We took him back to the shelter where he now awaits adoption yet again.
Elmer is very quiet, a perfect family dog. He loves children and gets on well with other dogs. He is now about 4.5 years old, medium size.
Alondra
Born in 2009, Alondra was abandoned by her owner, thrown out of her home and walked the streets for days before we rescued her. Alondra suffered from mange and malnutrition but has now almost fully recovered from her illnesses. She is very social and friendly with people and gets along well with most dogs.
Maya
Currently our youngest family member, Maya is now looking for a loving home. Her life started so terrible that she deserves only the best. On the 18th of May I received a phone call about a litter of puppies that had been put into a garbage bag and thrown away on the highway in town. Some passerby heard the whimpering, opened the bag and found 4 newborn pups inside. To cut a long story short, Maya is the only survivor of the litter and was bottle fed day and night for many weeks. She is very loving and likes to play in the garden with all the toys.
Sahara
Sahara came to the PEP shelter in 2010. She was adopted once but returned to the shelter after tw
o weeks, as the new owners said she did not bark. Well, all I can say is that in the shelter she is the first to bark if someone walks by or comes to visit. She is a great guard dog, but also very loving. Now that she has grown up (she was born in May 2010), she even stopped destroying everything (to my great relief!)
Tasha
Tasha was born in November 2010 and together with her two brothers abandoned on a busy road at the age of 5 weeks. PEP rescued the trio and Tasha is still looking for a loving home. She is very smart and enjoys going for long walks, playing with a ball which she will retrieve and loves splashing through muddy puddles after the rain.
Indra
I came to the PEP shelter in January 2011 after my previous owner decided that he did not want me any longer. I was going to be put to sleep at the vet when PEP rescued me and gave me a new home and a second chance. I was born in May 2010 and I am very grateful for everything you do for me. I love to play with the other dogs in the shelter and my biggest love in life is FOOD.
Sirena and Blanca
Sirena and Blanca were born around the 20th of April 2011. Their owner abandoned them at the age of approx 7 weeks outside our PEP store, without leaving a note or anything. Both puppies have since grown and are happy members of our big family. Sirena is the more outgoing and adventurous whereas Blanca is more tranquil and cuddly. Both females are vacinated, sterilized and ready to be adopted into a loving home.
Yackie
Hola, my name is Yackie and I was born around January 2009. I always roamed the streets looking for food and suffered from mange. I have been at the PEP shelter since April 2010 and now that I am all cured I am happy to find a family that wants to share the rest of my life with me. I love going for walks and play.
Karma
Karma is a very good guard dog. She loves to go for walks on the beach and play with other puppies. She was born around late December 2009 and suffered two broken front legs in an accident in April 2010.
Karma arrived at the PEP shelter after her accident and since then the poor animal has developed displacia in both her hind legs. She has taken medicine for pain relieve but currently is off medication.
Adoptions
All our dogs are members of the family and we treat them with respect and lots of love. They are healthy, vaccinated, sterilized and happy. To be able to adopt one of our dogs please consider the following:
1. the new home needs to have a fenced/walled in yard so the new dog has no chance to escape and walk in the streets. All our dogs are like pets and are not to be tied up for a long period of time.
2. registration with PEP AC is necessary and the adoption agreement is only between the new owners and PEP. The dog cannot be given to a third party.
3. the dog is to be fed approprietly with dog food only, table scraps are not nutritious and can harm the animal.
4. the new owners need to be financially able to care for the dog in sickness and in health.
5. please be aware that the life span of a dog can be up to 15 years, it’s a long term comittment.
6. think about who will take care of the dog while the family goes on vacation.
To learn more about Perros en Puerto and how you can help these dogs (and others like them), please visit www.perrosenpuerto.com.
Donations will go towards establishing a dog shelter to take dogs off the street and give them food, shelter and medical attention; providing a spaying and neutering service at low or no cost to control population growth of unwanted animals; and implementing a public education program to discuss humane health care and disease prevention.
Thank you,
Perros en Puerto
Sandra
I was born approx in 2005. I have been a mama a few times, but now am sterilized. I am very patient around puppies and other dogs. I even let my daughter eat my food when she is hungry! I am very calm and quiet. I would be perfect for a single owner.
Sandra arrived at the shelter in August 2009. She had just given birth to 7 puppies during a heavy storm when we rescued her and her newborns off the street.
